Another great leap of technology to ease human suffering and help make better lives. This is the good side of science and technology when use in its proper context it makes our life more livable and easier and helps us to create a better world to live by. Let’s just hope that science and technology would be used in this kind of endeavor and not in creating machines and products that destroys life.

Nanotechnology in health: A revolutionary step

Nanotechnology innovation may revolutionize gene detection in a single cell from PhysOrg.com
Scientists at Arizona State University’s Biodesign Institute have developed the world’s first gene detection platform made up entirely from self-assembled DNA nanostructures. The results, appearing in the January 11 issue of the journal Science, could have broad implications for gene chip technology and may also revolutionize the way in which gene expression is analyzed in a single cell.

Reasonable Science, Reasonable Faith:by Christoph Cardinal Schönborn

To the second edition of his Principia Mathematica, published in 1713, Isaac Newton appended what he called a scholium generale. A principal concern of Newton’s had been to refute Descartes’ theory of planetary motions, which he renounced as a materialistic theory. The perfection and the regularity of these motions cannot “have their origin in mechanical causes,” Newton insisted. “This supremely exquisite structure that is visible to us, comprising the sun, the planets, and the comets, could come into being solely through the decision and under the dominion of an intelligent and powerful, truly existing being. . . . He steers everything, not as a world-soul, but as the Lord of all things.”….

The Meaning of Life !

“What is the meaning of human life, or of organic life altogether? To answer this question at all implies a religion. Is there any sense then, you ask, in putting it? I answer, the man who regards his own life and that of his fellow creatures as meaningless is not merely unfortunate but almost disqualified for life.” -Albert Einstein from his book “The World As I see it”.

Indeed the question about the meaning of life is pointless if we disregard the humility, love and spirituality of religion for the scientific method can teach us nothing else beyond how facts are related to, and conditioned by, each other. The aspiration toward such objective knowledge belongs to the highest of which man is capable. Yet it is equally clear that knowledge of what is, does not open the door directly to what should be.
Therefore science and belief are necessary for the development and common good of humanity.

Bible on chip smaller than pinhead

nanotech.jpgA handout image by Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology, shows a reproduction of a page of the world’s smallest electronic Bible taken by a scanning electron microscope from a 0.5 millimeter chip containing the entire Hebrew Bible.

Israeli scientists said on Tuesday they have created the world’s smallest Bible, fitting a Hebrew-language version of the holy book on a gold-coated silicon chip smaller than a pinhead.

Researchers from Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology, were able to pack the 308,428-word Hebrew Bible — known to most as the Old Testament — on a 0.5 millimetre square, Ohad Zohar, who directed the project, told AFP…

Technology and Faith: A short reflection

advent-wreath.jpgAlbert Einstein once said in his comment on the compatibility of science and faith that “science without religion is crippled while religion without science is blind”. Modern science offers man a lot of possibilities in life it makes things easier and quick, but it has also its downside. When we are introduce by science to computers and gadgetries it makes our life easier and a lot better. Communication is faster, business transactions need not be time consuming, just press the keyboard and business deals is closed, shopping need not be in the mall or shopping center the web has virtual mall to shop even at the comfort of our home and a simple card will help you get what you want from clothing, food, houses and even your dream car.Diseases and malady that plagued the human race since the beginning of time has been given a cure or somehow been quarantined. But alongside with this comes the negative effect of science and technology. As technology progresses to an unmatched height we found man is becoming a non-person in his dealings with fellow humans. The downside of science if taken to the extreme is the dehumanization of the human being, man is stripped of his very being, he looses his own identity and his very soul. So the question is thus science and technology be compatible with faith? The answer is yes it is, faith is the science of the unknown though its language is not technical it uses the language of the human soul. This two , which nowadays is being fitted to each other as somewhat incompatible is actually reciprocating each other. Einstein knows that even though he is a freethinker he believes in the unity of technology and faith. If this two is seen side by side with each other is makes a single entity ;technology with a soul and faith with reason. Thomas Aquinas knows this in his “Summa” faith can be ascent through reason and science is explained by reason. This two has one thing in common the use of reason so they are not at par with each other but should rather reciprocate each other to help the human race.
